Our Story

Brian and Katie Fyfe met at Central College after Brian's 4 years serving in the Air Force. Katie received her Education Degree while Brian his Sociology degree. Shortly after their first year of marriage Brian went back to school majoring in Special Education. Both have huge hearts for children and love how they are sponges for learning about the world around them.

When Katie became pregnant with their first child, they made the decision for her to stay home. It wasn't until their second child was born that they decided the Lord was calling them to homeschool their children. Brian was homeschooled from 7th grade on and had a wonderful experience, while it would be a whole new world for Katie.

In 2020 the Lord started putting on Brian's heart to look into Classical Education. They became very passionate about teaching truth to their children and those around them, and absolute truth only comes from the Word of the Lord. It wouldn't be until the Fall of 2021 that Brian would hear clearly from the Lord to take the necessary steps to start the process. The verse that prompted him to know what the Lord wanted him to do was Colossians 3:16.

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

After much prayer, they knew what they needed to do. Brian resigned from his Special Education job in the public school system and started the process to create the non-profit "Adel Classical Academy".

Through discussions with families in Adel and the surrounding area, it became clear that there was a need for a different schooling option.  A similarly-modeled school in West Des Moines had a long wait list and families from Adel, Perry, and even further out attending. Our desire is for families to disciple and train up their children (Proverbs 22:6) and each other, in order to create people of character that will carry God's love with them wherever they go.  Our missions-focused curriculum will teach students and enable them to share that love with wisdom and eloquence to the communities, culture, and world around them.  The foundation of classical education will create deep roots in truth for our students to pull from as they encounter the world.

And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love; and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high his love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves, though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it. And so at last you will be filled up with God himself.

Ephesians 3:17-19 (The Living Bible)

We continue to be blown away by the amount of community support and interest there is for something different for our children. We are passionate about teaming with families to educate their children and believe the Collaboration model is the most natural way to do so. We know the Lord's hand is in all of this and look forward to continuing to see HIM work through the children, teachers and families of Adel Classical Academy!
